Cambridge Edwardian

Cambridge Edwardian

This top to bottom renovation of an Edwardian detached Cambridge home took four months to transform. The house hadn’t been touched since the 1970’s and still had its original kitchen and bathroom, the walls and ceilings had been covered in wood chip wallpaper and every inch of the house had green carpet. The downstairs layout had no flow from room to room and some structural work to the windows needed to be repaired.

We designed the house to create a more open flow for family living while still restoring the existing Edwardian features such are the fireplaces, coving and skirting. We used colour to give each room a personality and to work with existing features such as the tiles in the fireplaces. Sourcing an exact match for the original kitchen Edwardian tiles and found reclaimed ones from the same factory that made them in 1910. Reinstated Edwardian fireplaces into the bedrooms where we uncovered original fireplace hearth tiles.

Final stage was paring antique furniture with new pieces and layering these with texture and pattern in furnishings and accessories, making the home feel luxurious but also comfortable.
